In childhood, your mother and father hold and support you above all. At best, they show you what it means to trust yourself and they love you the way you will later love yourself. When you grow up you can then give yourself the same support and love.
I know this describes an ideal state that many have not experienced either. They must collect these gifts throughout their lives by themselfs, nourish themselfs too and learn skills of self-love. Often this is not an easy path, yet it has its own beauty.
